Website Access and Editing

The new website allows a range of users to access its content and also allows different categories of users to add, publish or change pages, or change the back-end settings. We explain the user types in more detail below, but in summary:

  • If you are worried that a posted article has an error, or contains something untoward, you can contact the relevant Editor, Publisher or Manager.
  • If you have content that you would like to add to a specific section, you can contact the relevant Author, Editor, Publisher or Manager
  • If you have any results or text or photos for a press release, you can either post them or speak to Sean Farrelly about it.
  • In an emergency, you can contact the Admins or Super-Admins, but please do not do so for routine administration of the site.

Admin: Jeremy Rowe

Super Admin: Ed Phillips, Tash Smith, Jim Cotter

The User Types explained

There are two main groups of user. The first are those that can access the front-end: i.e. the website and some of its control functions. The second group can access the back-end control panel.

In the first group of Front End Users:

  • Guests: Normal unregistered website visitors.
  • Registered: The Registered User Group comprises those users who have completed the registration process. As a Registered User they have the access permission to log in to the web site, view all Content that is Classified as Registered Access as well as Public Access Content. By default Registered Users are able to configure their own User Profile, submit a Web Link, view/rate Content Items with a Registered Classification.
  • Author: The Author User Group inherits the access permissions of the Registered User Group and in addition, its members are allowed to create a new Content Item for the Front-end of the web site.
    They do this via the menu item [where]?
  • Editor: The Editor User Group inherits the access permissions of the Author User Group and, in addition, its members are allowed to edit all published Content Items for the Front-end of the web site, and to review and edit (where appropriate) any new Content Item that has yet to be published. They do this via the menu item [where]?
  • Publisher: The Publisher User Group inherits the access permissions of the Editor User Group, and in addition, its members are allowed to publish new Content Items to the Front-end of the web site. In addition the Publisher can control existing published Content Items and Unpublish them if necessary by direct entry into the Content Item itself.

The scond group of Back-End Users are:

  • Super Administrator: The Super Administrator Group has access to all of the Back-end (Administrator) functions. Your site must have at least one User designated as a Super Administartor to perform the site's Global Configuration.  Users in this group cannot be deleted and cannot be switched to another group.
  • Administrator: The Administrator Group has slightly restricted access to the Back-end (Administrator) functions. Administrators cannot:

* Add or edit a User in the Super Administrator group
* Access the Global Configuration settings
* Access the Mass Mail function
* Manage/install Templates
* Manage/install Language files

  • Manager: The Manager Group is generally restricted to matters of content creation. A User in this group, in addition to the restrictions for an Administrator, cannot:

* Manage Users
* Install Modules
* Install Components
* Access some Components (as determined by the Super Administrator)
