Can I row today?

Anyone planning to row from the club must:

All people on the water (whether under supervision of a coach or not) must:

  • comply with the safety light system and the sculling proficiency scheme see those pages for details but in general terms: GREEN = NO SPECIFIC RESTICTIONS, AMBER=QUALIFIED PEOPLE ONLY, RED/AMBER=QUALIFIED PEOPLE ONLY AND BIG BOATS ONLY, RED = NO ROWING.

[DUE TO THE FIRE THE WEBCAMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE]

comply with the rules on rowing at night (you can find official sunrise and sunset times in the BBC weather report on the right, although you may need lights outside that time);

  • comply with the rules on rowing in fog;
  • assess the conditions and decide whether they think it is safe for them to go out - ultimately only you really know how good/confident you are: even if the rules above might let you go out, you should use your own common sense.

The view from the club:

[DUE TO THE FIRE THE WEBCAMS ARE NOT AVILABLE]

You may also want to look at the webcams run by Maidenhead Rowing Club of the water in their area, but these are not directly comparable to Marlow conditions. Oxford University also publishes their flag status, but that is indicative at best.

    PLUS, when on the water you must obey the circulation patterns (at the  club Temple , and  below the lock generally and particularly at  Bourne End Marina - PLEASE BE CAREFUL) and take care in locks.

    If you are using your boat:

    • it must have a valid Environment Agency licence; and
    • you must have a valid number on your boat (i.e. MAR123).

    If you are using a club boat:

    • If it is a bookable boat, you must have booked it out; and
    • If it is a squad boat, you must have permission from the coach of that squad (or the captain).
