Learning to Row
How old are you?
18 and over
ADULTS
We are keen to teach everybody interested in rowing at Marlow. Once you have completed a course, we have groups you can join to suit all ages, male and female, and of all levels of interest, from serious athletes, to those who want to enjoy the river at a more leisurely pace. New to this year we have midweek coaching and help for new rowers on Thursdays and Fridays to continue your development after your course.
We teach beginners between April and October when the weather (and water!) is warmer and more reliable. Our beginners learn in sculling boats (two oars each) as we believe this is the best way to start, you can transition to rowing (with one oar each) later.
NEW - All our courses now include British Rowing Silver Membership. This gives you various benefits including Civil Liability Insurance, regular magazines and 50% off River and Rowing Museum admission.
Crew Sculling Course
This is the preferred route for most people. There are five hour-long sessions in a crew of up to five people to give you a taste of sculling (rowing with two oars). This will give you a chance to try rowing and see if it is for you, and what it involves. It costs £75.
Courses will restart in April. Please go and look at the dates of upcoming courses. If none of these suit you, we will be putting on more over the summer, so sign up here to be put on the mailing list and we let you know dates. If you have a group of four or five friends whokp would like to do this course with, please get together a group of four or five people and sign up here with your availability and we will sort out a special course just for you.
One to One Adult Beginners Sculling Course
This course is available midweek only during the day due to the amount of coaching needed. The course is for people who have a lot of time midweek or perhaps know they want to row on their own in the future. It is the quickest way to get proficient in a single scull. The course comprises ten sessions of one hour each, and we provide one-to-one coaching. The aim of the course is to get you to Bronze level accreditation under our Sculling Proficiency Scheme, which is the minimum requirement for you to be let out on your own on the water. Sign up here with an indication of your midweek availability.
