When applying to become a member, or renew membership, members must confirm the following. This is intended to be legally binding, so those under 18 should obtain consent from their parents.

By applying for membership you agree that:

  • you do not have any medical or physical condition or disability which would either preclude heavy exercise or put you at increased risk while rowing, (note that (1) if you are applying for social (no gym, no rowing) membership, this does not apply, and (2) if you are "disabled" within the meaning of the Disability Discrimination Act you are welcome to join, but requested to discuss with the membership secretary what adaptions/special measures may have to be taken)

  • you are aware of MRC's data protection policy and consent to MRC processing your data as set out in the policy;
  • you also agree that club membership brings responsibilities to help and support the club including an implied agreement to help with organising club events as directed by the organising teams;
  • you accept that participation is at your own risk and responsibility, and understand that if under 18, in the event of any injury or illness alll reasonable steps will be taken to contact your parent/carer and to deal with injury or illness appropriately.

In 2013, Marlow Rowing Club started operating as a charity. This is an explanation of that structure for membership.

Data Protection:

Data Controller: The charity is the data controller for the personal data (as defined by the Data Protection Act 1998) that the club holds. Marlow Rowing Club Trading Limited does not process any personal data. The Club Secretary manages our data protection.

Data Held:

CCTV: The club operates CCTV for security purposes. You may be filmed while around the club and premises. This data is held for a time then overwritten when no longer needed.

Webcams: The club operates a couple of webcams, one of which shows the landing stages. You may be captured on this and visible from the relevant page of the website for a few minutes afterwards. This does not reveal any information not visible by someone standing on the bridge and is not retained thereafter. This camera is used for safety to allow members to understand the river conditions.

Membership, racking and event entry list: The club holds lists of members, members with racking and entrants to events.

Parents, next of kin: The club also holds details of parents of junior members, some next of kin and other related parties.

Website users: If you are registered with the website, your name and email address are held in the site database. This is currently separate to the membership and racking databases but may be merged in 2010. If you object to your details being held online please let us know.

Web Logs: Your IP address and some configuration about your computer reported automatically by your systems will be recorded in our access and error logs on the webserver. This is generally not personal data. You can Opt-Out of this if you use the Do Not Follow feature in your browser.

Use of cookies in website tracking: This website uses PiWik, which is a analytics tool. This data is stored on our site, but will make use of a cookie to record your movements around the site.
