Marlow Rowing Club are offering Learn to Row courses during school Summer holidays for all those interested in taking up this great sport.

Beginner/Novice Learn to Row Camp

We have ammended the way we run our Junior Learn To Row Courses in line with Government and British Rowing's Guidance and regulations. All particpants will learn in one of our stable single sculls, unless learning with another household member.

Who can apply?

We welcome all beginners and novices aged 12, curent year 7 rising year 8, and above.

What to expect:

The Beginner/Novice course will cover basic water and boat safety, boat-handling skills, basic sculling technique and further development of existing sculling skills for those who have already had a taster. We aim to cover the British Rowing GoRow Level 1 syllabus, for some attendees we are able to cover levels 2 and 3.
Participants will have one session on the water each day (weather dependent), with further activities outdoors (unless Gyms are able to open). The emphasis is on fun and participation. We will also include land-based fitness training for rowing, basic ergo technique and flexibility.

The skills taught are progressive so we recommend that participants attend all the sessions, which will lead up to a fun competition on the last day. The courses are led by our experienced and enthusiastic British Rowing qualified coaches.

What to bring:

You must be suitably clothed for outdoors, with the likelihood of getting wet. We recommend shorts, leggings, warm socks, t-shirts, long-sleeved tops and a warm outer layer. Clothing should be close-fitting and not have pockets at the front. Several thin layers are best. Bring a hat if cold or a cap for sun protection. You will need to bring at least two changes of dry clothing and a towel. Toilet facilities are available at the club.

All participants should a full refillable water bottle. Juniors will be supervised at the club throughout the day and will not be permitted to leave the site.

Further rowing:

Those who are interested in joining the Marlow Junior squad in will be offered advice on the next steps at the end of the course. Places in our development or competitive squads may be offered, subject to availability.
