Marlow Rowing Club took a sizeable contingent of 11 juniors, 6 boys and 5 girls, up to Boston for the recent long distance GB trials.

Conditions were exactly what you expect - very cold with flurries of snow both days and a slight breeze, stronger on the Sunday.

However, coaches' hearts were warmed by the excellent set of results.  With entry sizes in the various divisions of up to 30, all of whom were considered as potential national team members, Marlow came away with 3 division wins, two second places, two thirds and two fourth places.

Of particular note were the wins by 3 doubles:

  • Sholto Carnegie and Josh Kent in open junior men;
  • Alex Haynes and Fraser Russell winning J16 doubles, after finishing 3rd and 6th in their singles the previous day; and
  • Molly Harding and Rosalind Wilson in WJ16 doubles, following on from 2nd and 4th places in their singles the previous day.
In addition Sholto and Harry Glenister achieved second place in their race in open junior doubles.
Molly and Rosalind would have finished 3rd in the open junior women's category and Alex and Fraser just outside the top ten in open junior men's, which bodes well for their international futures. Another excellent result by younger athletes was the third place in open junior women's pairs achieved by Heidi Long and Erica Holmes, both still J16.
From the entire group, no athlete came away without having achieved at least a 4th place, so congratulations to:
  • Abi Armstrong
  • Molly Harding
  • Erica Holmes
  • Heidi Long
  • Rosalind Wilson

  • Sholto Carnegie
