Recreational rowing

For those without the time or inclination to join one of our competitive squads, the Club offers a rich variety of opportunities to row recreationally. We welcome adult recreational rowers and encourage them to get together to enjoy the river and the sport without the commitment of squad training. Most of the Club’s fleet – ranging from singles through doubles, pairs, quads, fours and eights – can be booked for use by recreational rowers. There’s a strong social element, with crews often getting together after outings for coffees, plus Christmas lunches etc.

There’s a variety of groups – typically self-organised via WhatsApp – open to anyone suitably competent.  These include ones focused on:

  • providing Learn To Row graduates opportunities to further develop their skills,
  • organising weekend and weekday crew outings for competent rowers, which may in summer include all-day trips through the locks up to Henley or down to Cookham
  • bringing together “oldies” aged 60-85 or more
  • bringing together scullers who prefer to single rather than row in crews

Some of these groups bring in coaches for some sessions and some choose to race,

In addition to the main groups above there’s a variety of other smaller self-organised groups.
